US President Joe Biden said that he will visit Vietnam “soon” in order to “change” the relationship with Hanoi, against the backdrop of tensions with China, both in the region and between Washington and Beijing.

“I’m going to Vietnam soon because Vietnam wants to change our relationship, to become a partner,” Mr. Biden said at a campaign fundraiser in New Mexico.

The mayor of Thira, Mr. Antonis Sigalas, had a meeting with a large official delegation from the state of Vietnam. The head of the delegation was the Minister of Interior, accompanied by high-ranking officials from important ministries of the country. Also present at the meeting were Deputy Mayor Sophia Kitsou and the Vice President of the Commercial and Industrial Association of Thira, Antonios Lignos.

3 years operation anniversary: May 25, 2017, H. Consulate of S.R. of Vietnam celebrated its opening.

Honorary Consulate started operating officially on the 1st of February 2017 in 3 Aristotelous Square, in downtown Thessaloniki. In May 2017 a formal reception to celebrate the opening of the Consulate was held in a restaurant next to the Town Hall. The reception proved very successful with dignitaries like other Consuls, members of the state government, member of the Greek and European Parliament, local business people, University Professors and Military leaders.
